ABOUT
Jazz Inc was founded in 2006 as a Boston-based, jazz dance company seeking to bridge the gap between concert and commercial dance. Exploring musicality, jazz styles, contemporary dance, and musical theatre styles, we aim to redefine our audiences' expectations of concert jazz dance and commercial theatre. Our dancers hail from diverse backgrounds and are highly technically trained, while infusing their own voice and personality into the choreography. Jazz Inc actively seeks to produce work that integrates dance with other art forms, such as music, photography, film, theatre, and sculpture.
Jazz Inc.’s longest running show Dance! Straight Up, 2005-2007, changed the face of lounge dinning in Boston. Other clients/commissions include Bicardi, Pearl Vodka, The Boston Design Center, An Evolution of Style 2007, Introspectives: A Shared Choreographers’ Concert, The Boston Bruins and Red Sox, the Museum of Fine Arts, and various theaters and festivals around Boston. Jazz Inc's first self-produced musical theatre production, BLINK, enjoyed its world premiere at the OBERON on May 1, 2011, and enjoyed a limited encore engagement in September 2011 as on of The Boston Globe's Top Ten Fall Theatre Picks. In 2014, Jazz Inc produced Escaping the Frame, a multi-media and live performance collaboration pairing local choreographers, filmmakers, and photographers on the historic Somerville Theatre stage. The production paid homage to the theater's rich history in vaudeville and contemporary film while highlighting Boston's own landscape and a wide variety of jazz styles.
Today, Jazz Inc continues to follow its mission through live commercial and concert performances, and community education through classes and workshops about the rich history and collaborative world of jazz.
